Nic Brownlie
Nic Brownlie is your host on all writing retreats at A Place to Write, ably supported by his wonderful wife Wendy.

Nic is a doctoral researcher at the world-famous Shakespeare Institute, at the University of Birmingham, where he has recently submitted his thesis (and is currently awaiting examination) on the effects of candlelight in Shakespeare's indoor playhouse, working under the direct supervision of Professor Tiffany Stern, the leading authority on Early Modern theatre practice.

In previous lives Nic has been a teacher, Head of English and Director of Drama in various educational establishments including Wellington College in Berkshire and The Leys School in Cambridge. He has also worked extensively as a theatre director and, strangely perhaps for a writer, as a theatre lighting designer across the UK. His proudest professional achievement was producing and directing an acclaimed performance of Macbeth in Manchester Cathedral.

Throughout each retreat, Nic will facilitate the tutored sessions, run the evening events (optional) and generally be available to support you in whatever way he can.
